Friday, Day One: Gather. If you arrive early Friday, we’ll meet up at the Studio between 3 and 4 pm for light refreshments to mix as members of the collective, distribute materials, discuss goals and directions. The official start will be an evening Museum visit at the MET — beginning at 5pm until closing. You will receive your first objective there, and instructions for Saturday’s meetup, too. There’s a plethora of food choices that evening for dinner, and we will work and move toward our objectives together.

Saturday, Day Two: Collect, Explore and Interact. The first meetup point is where we will hunt, sketch, photograph, look, learn and see. There will be games. You will develop both a sketchbook and a visual diary and learn how to document fleeting ideas so you can use them to develop work and begin to understand the Design Elements and Principles. This is a day of discovering what it’s like to be a studio jewelry artist inspired by New York. Our walking tour will be work  — your objective and personal design goals plus the group objective for the collection will be discussed and started.

Sunday, Day Three: Make. We’ll have all day in the studio to explore our ideas and experiment with design concepts. Each member of the team will design their individual concept board and begin to fabricate one work based on their sketches and technical journal that solves the design”problem” they have chosen to solve. I will demo a group of design and fabrication techniques relevant to this class to get you started, but we will all work together as a team to help each other reach the collective goal. You’ll go home with homework, and there will be a Skype show and tell date in November, too. We will build an ongoing gallery page on FaceBook to show the world our work, and stay in touch with our teammates.
